About Northern Rivers Astronomy Society
The Northern Rivers Astronomy Society is a community of passionate stargazers, skywatchers, and space enthusiasts dedicated to exploring and sharing the wonders of the universe.
Formed to promote amateur astronomy in the Northern Rivers region, we actively encourage observational astronomy, astrophotography, and telescope building. Many of our members specialize in areas such as lunar and planetary observation, deep-sky imaging, and astrophotography.
We foster a welcoming and supportive community where members of all experience levels can learn, share, and grow. Through star parties, astro camps, educational workshops, and public outreach, we aim to inspire curiosity and deepen understanding of the cosmos.
Whether you’re an experienced astronomer or just discovering the night sky for the first time, the Northern Rivers Astronomy Society is the perfect place to connect, learn, and explore the universe together.
Mission Statement
The Northern Rivers Astronomy Society (NRAS) is dedicated to inspiring curiosity and connection through astronomy.
Our mission is to spark a lifelong passion for the night sky, encouraging people of all ages to look up, explore, and discover the universe together.
We aim to cultivate a friendly, inclusive community that values learning, sharing, and scientific curiosity. Through regular stargazing nights, astro camps, and community outreach, we bring people together to experience the beauty of the cosmos firsthand.
NRAS supports members on their journey from enthusiastic beginners to skilled, knowledgeable astronomers united by wonder, discovery, and the joy of exploring the stars.
Society Activities
Monthly Meetings
The Northern Rivers Astronomy Society meets once a month for an evening of learning, discussion, and connection. New visitors are always welcome to come along, meet our members, and discover what our club is all about. Meetings often include presentations, project updates, and opportunities for members to share their latest observations or astronomy news.
Field Nights
Weather permitting, we hold Field Nights after each monthly meeting, where members and guests can observe the night sky through a variety of telescopes. These sessions are a great chance to get hands-on experience, ask questions, and enjoy the wonders of the universe together.
Astro Camps
Our Astro Camps are held regularly at dark-sky locations across the region, far from city lights. These weekends offer perfect conditions for deep sky observing, astrophotography, and spending time with fellow astronomy enthusiasts under the stars
